Peak year of the timber trade. The Ottawa Citizen newspaper (first known as The Packet) is established, an example of the presence of industry attracting wealthy business men such as Thomas Carbide Willson, Ezra Butler Eddy, and Henry Bronson who would become important art patrons in the city.
