Starting in 1927, Anishinābeg (Algonquin) children were removed from the community of Kitigan Zibi and sent to residential schools located in Ontario and Quebec, including schools in Kenora, Spanish, Amos, and Pointe Bleue. Many Anishinābeg (Algonquin) children were also removed from the community of Golden Lake (now Pikwakanagan First Nation) and sent to a federally funded Catholic residential school at Spanish, Ontario.
À partir de 1927, les enfants anishinābeg (algonquins) sont arrachés à la communauté de Kitigan Zibi et envoyés dans des pensionnats en Ontario et au Québec, notamment à Kenora, Spanish, Amos et Pointe-Bleue. De nombreux enfants anishinābeg (algonquins) sont aussi séparés de la communauté de Golden Lake (aujourd’hui la Première Nation de Pikwàkanagàn) et envoyés dans des pensionnats catholiques financés par le gouvernement fédéral à Spanish, en Ontario.
